THE ACCREDITATION PROCESS
A Clear, Structured Path to Recognition
CEQAC’s accreditation process is designed to be rigorous yet accessible. We guide providers through three phases, each building on the last, to ensure both quality and readiness before granting accreditation.
Timeline: Most providers complete the process in 2-3 months from initial application to final decision.
Phase 1: Minimum Eligibility Requirements
What This Phase Covers
Before beginning the accreditation process, providers must confirm they meet baseline requirements for legal standing, financial capacity, and program scope. These criteria ensure that applicants have the operational integrity and educational capacity to deliver credible, outcomes-based programs.
You Must Demonstrate:
✓ Educational Program Readiness
At least one program with a minimum of 50 instructional hours, designed for learners with high school completion (or equivalent) or relevant professional/experiential background
✓ Financial Capacity
Sufficient resources to deliver educational services without disruption
✓ Legal & Regulatory Standing
Legal authorization to operate in your jurisdiction(s) and compliance with consumer protection, advertising, employment, accessibility, and data privacy regulations
✓ Organizational Structure & Ethics
Transparent governance, ethical leadership, and no current sanctions or past actions detrimental to learners
Important: Meeting eligibility requirements qualifies you to apply for accreditation but does not guarantee approval. Compliance must be maintained throughout the process and during your accredited term.
What Happens Next:
Once eligibility is confirmed, you’ll move to Phase 2 and complete the Readiness Self-Assessment.
Phase 2: Readiness Self-Assessment
What This Phase Covers
Before applying for full accreditation, you’ll complete a structured self-evaluation against CEQAC’s five core standards. This assessment helps you identify strengths, gaps, and areas for improvement—and ensures you’re ready for peer review.
The Readiness Assessment Includes:
A short rubric based on CEQAC’s accreditation standards. For each standard, you’ll rate your organization as:
- Yes – We fully meet this standard
- Partially – We meet some aspects but have gaps
- No – We do not currently meet this standard
You’ll also provide brief explanations or examples supporting each rating.
To Move Forward, You Must:
✓ Score at least “Partially” on all five standards
✓ Score “Yes” on at least three standards
✓ Provide an improvement plan for any areas marked “No”
Why This Matters:
The Readiness Assessment isn’t just a hurdle—it’s a tool for improvement. Completing it helps you:
- Understand CEQAC’s expectations clearly
- Identify where you need to strengthen practices
- Prepare the evidence you’ll need for full review
- Demonstrate your commitment to continuous quality improvement
Timeline: Most providers complete the self-assessment in 2-4 weeks.

What Happens Next:
Once you’ve completed the assessment and confirmed readiness, you’ll submit your formal application and pay the application fee to begin Phase 3.
Phase 3: Full Accreditation Review
What This Phase Covers
Once you’ve passed the readiness stage, CEQAC conducts a comprehensive evaluation of your organization. This includes detailed documentation review and interviews with key stakeholders to ensure alignment with all CEQAC standards.
The Review Process Includes:
Documentation Analysis
Our peer reviewers examine evidence across all five standards, including:
- Curriculum design and learning objectives
- Instructor qualifications and professional development
- Assessment methods and learner outcomes data
- Policies on admissions, student support, and ethics
- Financial sustainability documentation
Site Visit & Interviews
We conduct virtual or in-person interviews with:
- Program leadership and instructors
- Current learners and alumni
- Administrative staff
- Governance or oversight bodies (if applicable)
These conversations help us understand how your organization operates in practice, not just on paper.
Peer Review & Council Decision
Trained peer reviewers prepare a comprehensive report with findings and recommendations. The CEQAC Council reviews the report and makes the final accreditation decision.
Possible Outcomes:
✓ Accreditation Granted – You meet all standards and receive full accreditation
✓ Conditional Accreditation – You meet most standards but must address specific gaps within a defined timeline
✓ Accreditation Deferred – Significant improvements needed; you may reapply after addressing deficiencies
✓ Accreditation Denied – Standards not met; detailed feedback provided
Timeline: The full review typically takes 5-8 weeks from documentation submission to final decision.
What Happens After Accreditation:
Accredited providers receive a certificate, are listed in our public directory, and must maintain ongoing compliance through annual reporting and periodic renewal reviews.

Application Fee (Initial & Renewal):
$2,500 base + $1,000 per program under review
Annual Accreditation Fee (Based on Provider Size):

Example Cost Scenarios:
- Small provider with 1 program: $2,500 (application) + $750 (annual) = $3,250 Year 1
- Medium provider with 3 programs: $5,500 (application) + $1,500 (annual) = $7,000 Year 1
- Large provider with 2 programs: $4,500 (application) + $2,000 (annual) = $6,500 Year 1
All fees are reviewed periodically to ensure fairness and accessibility.
